Nationals request release waivers on veteran OF Eddie Rosario

The Washington Nationals requested unconditional release waivers on veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario on Wednesday after he was designated for assignment Monday.
The move to DFA Rosario was made to get outfield prospect James Woods on the active roster.
Rosario, 32, had seven home runs with 26 RBIs in 67 games for the Nationals this season, his first with the club. In 10 seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2013-20), Cleveland (2021), Atlanta Braves (2021-23) and Nationals, Rosario is a career .264 hitter with 166 home runs and 574 RBIs in 1,097 career games.
Once he clears release waivers, Rosario will become a free agent. The Nationals are responsible for the remainder of his $2 million salary this season, with a new club responsible for a prorated amount of the league minimum salary.
Rosario was acquired by the Braves during the 2021 season and helped the club to a World Series title. He was named MVP of the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers when he had three home runs among his 14 hits.
